Useful Websites

There are obviously a huge number of websites that will prove useful to drivers of EVs or simply people who are interested in them.  This will evolve and I will add further sites as and when I become aware of them.  If you know of useful websites that aren't listed here, do please let me know and I will, if appropriate, add them.

Just bear with me...

There is a huge wealth of information at our fingertips in this modern world, although there's plenty of misinformation too.

Zap-Map

Zap-Map provides a database of the public charge points across the UK, but it provides so much more besides this.

There's charging guides, vehicle information, statistics and tools, including information about journey costs, tax calculators and EV energy tariffs.  Plus there's an App.

Need to Charge

Need to Charge is a simple idea, but it requires engagement.

If you arrive at a charger desperate for a charge and another vehicle is plugged in, this website and mobile App allows you to make safe contact with the vehicle owner.  However, this only works if they are engaged themselves and have registered their car details on the system.

You can type the vehicle registration number into the App and, if they're registered, they will receive a message from within the App.  They can even respond to confirm if they're in a position to be able to move their car and free up the charger.

Green Car Guide

The Green Car Guide is an electric, hybrid and green car review site. They are independent and their advice is impartial. The Green Car Guide is great to site to learn more information about electric and hybrid cars while offering assistance on which cars would be most suitable for you.

They are driven by a mission to end climate change and look after the environment and they promote cars which will help achieve this cause.

Office for Zero Emission Vehicles

The Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) is a government team working to promote and support the transition to zero emission vehicles. This is a useful site to keep your eye on for official news on grants, workplace charging scheme and changing policies that will potentially benefit an electric car owner.

UK Electric Vehicle Owners Group

This is the website linked to the Facebook group of the UK Electric Vehicle Owners Group, established and run by Gary Cambridge.

EV Groups Nexus

Just as with owners of ICE vehicles, many EV owners like to meet up with link minded people.  EV Groups Nexus helps you with the search for your local group.  EV Groups Nexus are a collection of independent Electric Vehicle Car clubs from around the United Kingdom and Ireland.

National Grid Live

Kate Rose Morley is a software developer based in the south-west of England.  She lives with her wife Clare and, amongst other things, provides data on electricity generation in the UK, which is updated every five minutes.

Fully Charged Live

Fully Charged was founded by Robert Lewellyn, who is an active campaigner not just for electric vehicles, but for an end to the burning of fossil fuels.  Fully Charged Live are regular events held in the UK, Europe and North America.

Fully Charged Show

Fully Charged Show is the world’s number 1 clean energy & electric vehicle channel hosted by writer, broadcaster and actor Robert Llewellyn, Maddie Moate, Jack Scarlett, Helen Czerski, Chelsea Sexton and Andy Torbet.

Myth Busting: HM Gov

There is an awful lot of misinformation about EVs, much of it shared eagerly by anti-EV lobbyists and ICE car enthusiasts.

Whilst I've provided my own take on battling the myths (and lies) on this site, here's the government's arguments.

Facebook Groups

I can't list all of the EV groups on Facebook, as I'd be here forever.  But, here's some that I am a member of and find useful.  Please do search for pages related to your own EV or, if you haven't yet purchased, the EVs your considering.  Those groups will usually provide a great deal of balanced and helpful information.

Please remember that social media is a great place for naysayers to spread misinformation.

In addition, people are quick to post updates when they have a complaint, but less inspired to post positive news.
